ASDP PROJECT PASSED APPRAISAL STAGE

The Agricultural Sector Development Programme (ASDP) Project is a multi-sectoral development intervention involving Irrigation and drainage; General agriculture, fishing and forestry sector; Agricultural extension and research; and Agricultural marketing and trade. The program objectives are:
1. To enable farmers to have better access to and use of agricultural knowledge, technologies, and infrastructure; all of which contribute to higher productivity, profitability, and farm incomes.
2. To promote agricultural private investment based on an improved regulatory and policy environment.
The project solicits funds from both bilateral and multi-lateral donors. One of them, the International Development Association (IDA), had a favourable appraisal to the project and the Board of the World Bank is expected to approve its involvement on 6th July 2006.
