The Board of the World Bank (WB) has approved an IDA credit of US$ 90 million to finance the Tanzania's Agricultural Sector Development Project (ASDP). The project has two complementary objectives: (i) to enable farmers to have better access to and use of agricultural knowledge, technologies, marketing systems and infrastructure, all of which contribute to higher productivity, profitability, and farm incomes; and (ii) to promote agricultural private investment based on an improved regulatory and policy environment.
The Bank has also approved an additional credit of US$ 98 million to support the Tanzania’s Local Government Support Project. The project will strengthen fiscal decentralization, improve accountability in the use of local government resources, and improve management of the intergovernmental transfer system. It would serve to increase access to infrastructure and services in unplanned areas of Dar es Salaam and to improve their operations and maintenance.
