PROJECT LINKAGE WITH MKUKUTA: AN IMPORTANT ASPECT IN RESEARCH BUDGETING

A team of finance and planning officers from the Department of Research and Training, Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has visited ARI-Tumbi today. They also conducted a one day workshop to Principal Investigators (PI) and Zonal accountants on new budgeting technique known as Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF). In their presentations, these officers reminded scientists to observe the framework by linking their project activities and budgets with the national vision, policies, strategies and priorities. They cited examples of such to include Tanzania’s National Strategy for Growth and Poverty Reduction (MKUKUTA), Agricultural Sector Development Strategy (ASDS) and Poverty Reduction Strategy (PRS). Others are Millenium Development Goals (MDGs), Tanzania Development Vision 2025 and Agriculture Policy 1997 (under review). The team consisted of Mr. A. J. Ahmed, Ms. M. A. Mwamkemwa and Mr. D. Lwezaura. Prior to presentations, they paid a courtesy call to the Acting Zonal Director, Mr D. Byamungu.
